How are the 12 amateurs performing at The Open Championship 2024? Here's who missed and made the cut at Royal Troon

The second round of the Open Championship concluded on Friday, July 19, at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. Only four of the 12 amateurs that teed up at the Open Championship successfully made the Friday cut.

The 12 amateur golfers who qualified for the Open Championship with the exemptions are as follows:

  • Dominic Clemons: 2024 Final Qualifying, Burnham & Berrow
  • Santiago de la Fuente: 2024 Latin America Amateur Champion
  • Matty Dodd-Berry: 2024 Final Qualifying, West Lancashire
  • Luis Masaveu: 2024 Final Qualifying, Royal Cinque Ports
  • Jaime Montojo Fernández: 2024 Final Qualifying, Royal Cinque Ports
  • Tommy Morrison: 2024 European Amateur Champion
  • Liam Nolan: 2024 Final Qualifying, Dundonald Links
  • Jacob Skov Olesen: 2024 Amateur Champion
  • Gordon Sargent: 2023 Mark H. McCormack Medal Winner
  • Calum Scott: 2024 Open Amateur Series Winner
  • Jasper Stubbs: 2023 Asia-Pacific Amateur Champion
  • Altin van der Merwe: 2024 African Amateur Championship

The cutline rested on six over par at the 152nd Open. The four amateurs to make the cut at Major are Calum Scott, Jacob Skov Olesen, Luis Masaveu, and Tommy Morrison.

#1 Calum Scott (Scotland)

Calum Scott was the top amateur on the field after a play of 36 holes. He carded a splendid 71 in the first round. The Scot scored four birdies and four bogeys on the first day. In the second round, Scott carded 4-over 75 with five bogeys and one birdie. He is tied at 38th with the likes of Cameron Young and Justin Thomas.


#2 Jacob Skov Olesen (Denmark)

The 2024 Amateur Champion scored a double bogey on the first hole of the first round and didn't recover. As a result, he carded 5 over 76 and it seemed he would miss the Friday cut.

However, he made a spectacular comeback in the second round and scored an even par 71. He finished with an aggregate score of 5-over 147 and is tied at 54th.


#3 Luis Masaveu (Spain)

The 21-year-old Spaniard made the Friday cut after scoring 73 in the first round and 75 in the second. He scored two birdies and four bogeys in the first 18 holes and scored four bogeys in the next. He is tied at 69th.


#4 Tommy Morrison (United States)

The 19-year-old American was the first from his country to win European Amateur. He made the cut by scoring 6-over 148 in 36 holes at the Open Championship and is tied on 69th.


Eight amateurs missed the cut at the Open Championship 2024

Matthew Dodd-Berry scored 1-over 72 in the first round and looked comfortable to make the Friday Cut but scored a disappointing 80 in the second round. Jaime Montojo is another amateur who scored 3-over 74 on the first day but scored a dismal 81 in the second round.

The eight amateurs to miss the cut with their scores in the first and second rounds of the 2024 Open Championship are as follows:

  • Matthew Dodd-Berry, 10 over (72, 80)
  • Jasper Stubbs, 10 over (80, 72)
  • Altin van der Merwe, 11 over (79, 74)
  • Liam Nolan, 13 over (78, 77)
  • Jaime Montojo, 13 over (74, 81)
  • Dominic Clemons, 13 over (77, 78)
  • Gordon Sargent, 13 over (80, 75)
  • Santiago de la Fuente, 14 over (78, 78)
