The 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play ended on Sunday with Sam Burns lifting the trophy at the Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas. The 26-year-old golfer beat Cameron Young, 6 and 5, in the final to earn his fifth PGA Tour win.
Burns outlasted the field to bag the winner’s share of $3.5 million from the $20 million prize purse. Apart from the hefty paycheck, the American also earned 37.7 Official World Golf Ranking points and 550 FedEx Cup points for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play win. While Burns took the top prize, runner-up Young settled for a paycheck of $2.2 million. Rory McIlroy, who won the consolation final against Scottie Scheffler, earned $1.42 million for his efforts.
Scheffler won $1.14 million. Jason Day, Kurt Kitayama, Xander Schauffele, and Mackenzie Hughes all got out in the quarterfinals. Each of them bagged $645,000. K.H. Lee, Tom Hoge, Will Zalatoris, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Tyrrell Hatton, and Sepp Straka finished T59. After failing to get out of the group stage, they finished last on the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play leaderboard and earned $67,500 each.
