While it may not have started this way, Jon Rahm enjoyed a stellar season on LIV Golf. The Spaniard had a rocky beginning, but he ended the year as the individual champion for the tour. He finished in the top 10 in every single start he made, and that yielded a lot of money.
LIV Golf has a lot of money available every time they compete. Their prize purses are the biggest in golf, and Rahm routinely took home a sizeable portion of that. After his most recent win, which capped off the individual season and earned him a title, how much has he made in total?
According to Underdog Golf on X, Rahm pulled in $34.7 million in on-course earnings. That doesn't include his massive contract, which was signed for well over $300 million.
Rahm said of his first season (via FlushingIt on X):
"I thoroughly enjoyed it. Being able to go to Adelaide, Hong Kong, Singapore, all those places in Asia and Australia was quite unique and so much fun."
For comparison, Scottie Scheffler had a historic season on the PGA Tour. He won eight times all year, including the Tour Championship and the Olympics. Rahm didn't win that many times, but he still outdid Scheffler in money: $34.7 million to $29.2 million in on-course earnings.
Business Insider reports that Scheffler earned, with bonuses and more, a total of $62 million this season, but his on-course earnings were slightly lower than Rahm's.
Before joining LIV Golf, Rahm discussed the life-changing money that LIV had to offer. He, at the time, wasn't going to join despite the potential earnings, but he ultimately did and enjoyed one of the best years anyone in golf had financially.
Jon Rahm talks about title-clinching victory
Jon Rahm ended up three shots ahead of Joaquin Niemann and Sergio Garcia, a fairly clean victory for the Spaniard. However, throughout the final round, it was a little closer than that. Rahm missed two birdie putts that allowed them to hang around before making a birdie on the 17th hole to cement his win.
He said via ESPN:
"I wanted to do a good show and get it over the line. I'm really happy. To go bogey-free on the weekend, it's quite spectacular. I'm very proud of the putt on the 17th, which made 18 a lot easier."
Jon Rahm added that he had been nervous before the tournament. There was a lot at stake. It was Rahm's final chance to earn a win in his first season. He won at LIV Golf UK and lost in a playoff to Brooks Koepka as well this year. The Crushers, led by Bryson DeChambeau, earned the team victory in Chicago.
