Mardy Fish won $150,000 after emerging as the winner at the 2024 American Century Championship on Sunday, July 14. The total prize money at the 35th edition of the tournament was $750,000, an increase of $150,000 from the last year's prize money.

In 2023, Stephen Curry won the tournament and took home $125,000. The winner's payout has been increased by $25,000. This year, the prize payout of the top five spots at the 2024 American Century Championship is as follows:

  • 1st Place: $150,000
  • 2nd Place: $70,000
  • 3rd Place: $40,000
  • 4th Place: $30,000
  • 5th Place: $25,000

Ice Hockey player Joe Pavelski finished as the runner-up and took home $70,000. Annika Sorenstam won $40,000 for finishing third and John Smoltz received $30,000 after finishing fourth. Derek Lowe earned $25,000 after he finished fifth on the final leaderboard at the 2024 American Century Championship.

After the tournament, Mardy Fish was asked what he would do with the prize money. He said (via Golfweek):

"I mean, I got bills to pay, man. I live in Los Angeles. I have two kids right there that are very expensive. It kind of shows where the tournament’s going and where it's headed and continuing to sort of grow the American Century Championship throughout."

Mardy Fish had also won the tournament in 2020. He had received $125,000 at the time. Last year, he was the runner-up and took home $60,000.

The 2024 payout has considerably improved from the last year, when it was:

  • 1st Place: $125,000
  • 2nd Place: $60,000
  • 3rd Place: $35,000
  • 4th Place: $25,000
  • 5th Place: $20,000

Mardy Fish said he "mingled with" his friends because of the delayed start of the final round of 2024 American Century Championship

The third and final round of the 2024 American Century Championship was delayed for about 30 minutes due to rain around the Lake Tahoe area.

However, Mardy Fish wasn't bothered. He took full advantage of the situation as he met his friends. Fish said (via Golfweek):

"No big deal. It gives you time to go mingle with your buddies you haven’t seen. I saw Larry Fitz (Fitzgerald), he was coming off No. 9, going to 10. And we were just about to tee off — first time I’d seen him all week. We’re good buddies; he’s a Minnesota boy and so am I."

Mardy Fish also said he had been texting Travis Kelce all week. The former tennis player added that because of the delay, he could meet people he rarely meets outside of such events.

Ice Hockey player Joe Pavelski finished second at the American Century Championship, just four points behind Fish. Reflecting on his performance, he said (via Golfweek):

"This is my best showing. I think if I could replicate this here the next few years, if we get the opportunity, hopefully we have a chance to lift that trophy like Fish is doing. Golf is a game I love. Definitely going to be playing, practicing, trying to get a little better at it. But you get in a tournament you never know how fully it’s going to play out."

Last month, NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported that Pavelski had retired from the NHL after playing 18 seasons. He played 1533 games in his career and turned 40 on July 11.
