Nelly Korda wasn't awarded any official money for winning the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. However, a US athlete is awarded $37,500 for winning a gold medal by the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
Nelly Korda won the gold medal in the women's golf event at the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Saitama, Japan. She scored 17-under 267 in the four rounds and won by one stroke over Mone Inami of Japan.
Korda scored 68 in the first round and was tied for second after the first round. She carded a score of 9-under 62 in the second round. The 26-year-old scored an eagle, and nine birdies against a bogey in the second round. She took a four-shots lead after 36 holes.
In the third round, Korda scored 69 and was three shots ahead going into the final round. She lost her lead after scoring a double bogey on the seventh hole in the final round but rebounded with three straight birdies and won the gold medal.
There is no official payout for the 2024 Paris Olympics either. However, the women golfers in the field will receive ranking points for their performance at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France.
In 2020, Nelly Korda gained 37 ranking points for her victory at the Tokyo Olympics. In 2024, a gold medal will also grant a point for entry into the LPGA Hall of Fame. A total of 27 points are needed for the inclusion. New Zealand's Lydia Ko will be eyeing the HOF as she is currently at 26 points. The 2024 Tokyo Olympics winner will win an exemption to the next five Majors on the LPGA Tour.
