After a successful Players Championship outing, the PGA Tour is now headed to the Copperhead Course near Tampa, Florida, for the 2023 Valspar Championship. Scheduled as the 21st PGA Tour event of the 2022-2023 PGA Tour schedule, the Valspar Championship will tee off on Thursday, March 16.
The 2023 Valspar Championship has a prize purse of $8.1 million. According to the PGA Tour’s prize money distribution chart, the winner of the event will bag $1,458,000 -- the standard 18 percent payout of the purse. The four-day event will see 144 players, including the likes of Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Justin Rose, and more compete for the top prize. Defending champion Sam Burns will also return to the field this week.
The PGA Tour event will have 36 holes cut, which will ensure prize money payouts to the top 65 players and ties. The prize-money payout will be based on the circuit’s distribution chart.

Apart from the prize money, the winner of the Valspar Championship will also earn several perks, including the 500 FedEx Cup and 80 Official World Golf Ranking points, based on the field strength. The champion will earn a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour and an exemption into next year's Tournament of Champions.
It is pertinent to note that the event’s $8.1 million prize purse is significantly low compared to the Players Championship's record-setting purse of $25 million. The event was headlined by the likes of Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, and Rory McIlroy, among others, with the winner receiving a whopping $4.5 million. However, most top names have decided to use this week to rest ahead of the upcoming Masters.
