The Showdown, an 18-hole event, will take place on Tuesday, December 17, at Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. Four golfers, two each from LIV Golf and PGA Tour will compete at the event.

Fans in the US can watch The Showdown on TNT, TBS and truTV at 6 p.m. ET on December 17. The broadcast will be available online on the Discovery Plus app and website. The viewers in the UK can watch the event on TNT Sports. No broadcast details for other countries are available for the event.

The PGA Tour stars Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will go against LIV Golf's Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau. Scheffler and McIlroy are favorites to win the event after having a stellar 2024 season.

Talking about competing in the event, the OWGR No. 1 Scheffler said, via Golf Digest:

"When we see each other on tour or at majors, we’re in our little world, our little bubble. Here, you’re just cutting up, hanging out pretty much the whole time. It’s always fun getting to know guys in a more relaxed environment. That’s what’s fun about the team events."

Meanwhile, McIlroy shed light on the rivalry between LIV Golf and PGA Tour in the last two years. He said:

"There is a bit more buzz because of what’s happened in golf the last two years,” McIlroy said. “It’s more competitive and doesn’t feel as gimmicky."

As per CBS Sports, Scheffler and McIlroy have odds of -148 to win the event while DeChambeau and Koepka have odds of +122.

The Showdown's format

The inaugural edition of The Showdown is an 18-hole event with three stages on Tuesday, December 17. The first six holes will be in the fourball format while the next six will be in the foursomes. In the last six holes, players will face each other. Rory McIlroy will take on Bryson DeChambeau while Scottie Scheffler will go against Brooks Koepka.

The format is as follows:

  • Fourball (holes 1-6): The best score from each pair counts.
  • Foursomes (holes 7-12): Alternate shots between teammates.
  • Singles (holes 13-18): Players compete one-on-one, Rory McIlroy vs Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler vs Brooks Koepka

Talking to SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio about the event, NBA legend Charles Barkley, part of the TNT broadcast team, didn't mince his words. He said, via Golf Digest:

"I wish these fools would quit screwing around, LIV and the PGA Tour. I don’t know what the hell they’re doing. They're so stupid. These guys are so idiotic. They need to be playing against each other [in more than] the majors. It would be beneficial for both tours."

The winners of the event will win $10 million in cryptocurrency.
