"I actually don't really know" - Xander Schauffele says there's still ambiguity about the Tour and it's functioning, shares his approach to it

Xander Schauffele has said there's still a lot of uncertainty about how the PGA Tour operates and he hasn't taken an interest in learning more about it. He added that he has been focusing more on his game, which is why he has been playing well.

Schauffele is in Atlanta, Georgia, to compete in the Tour Championship, which will be played from Thursday, August 29, to Sunday, September 1, at East Lake Golf Club.

During the pre-event press conference on Tuesday, August 27, Xander Schauffele was asked if PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan is now being more transparent with him and other players.

"I actually don't really know," he replied. "I'm not going to -- I haven't really paid attention, to be completely honest. I've been a little busy with my own -- with my head in the sand, as I said earlier this year or last year or whatever.

"I really have been focusing on my own stuff, and I have not sat and asked a single person, how is the Tour doing, because I just care how Xander is doing, and that's pretty much it," he added.

Schauffele added that he was occasionally receiving emails from Jay Monahan and the Tour about updates regarding the merger with PIF.

"It's a very private matter what's going on between," he continued. "Trying to make tours merge and the state of golf and those things. Those are sort of behind-closed-doors talks. "

It's not a room that I was ever in, and I really haven't thought much about it. That's probably why I've been playing much better. I've just been focusing on my own stuff," he added.

When will Xander Schauffele begin his round at the Tour Championship on Thursday?

Xander Schauffele will tee off on Thursday at 2 p.m. ET from the first hole alongside Scottie Scheffler for the first round of the Tour Championship.

Ahead of the third event of the playoffs, Schauffele has accumulated 5,422 points with the help of two wins and 14 top-ten finishes. However, he is still 1,193 points behind Scheffler. The World No. 2 has been in better form during the playoffs, with T2 and T5 finishes in the past two weeks.

Although Schauffele has just two titles this season compared to Scheffler's six, a FedEx Cup win this week would make the PGA Tour Player of the Year debate more interesting.
