Jordan Spieth is moving towards registering a lead at the Valspar Championship, which is underway in Florida. The star golfer managed to secure the third position after the tournament's second round concluded on Friday, March 17.
Adam Schenk, who topped the leaderboard on Thursday, extended his lead after the second round.
Jordan Spieth's first two rounds in the tournament are more of a seesaw ride. He carded 4-under 67 in the inaugural round but could only manage to play a round of 70 on Friday.
However, the three-time major champion knows how he needs to get back on top. Speaking about his performance, Spieth said:
“I have clarity on how to get there. That's really what's important in the game. I know what I need to do to get to the best, then to get to my ceiling, the best that I can be.
“On and around the greens I feel like I'm there. I have a round like today off the tee where I'm there. But then like the approach game and the wedge game, which has been pretty solid, wasn't quite there. So it's like to get it all really consistent I just feel like I'm, at this point, I'm not focusing on one thing it's like, hey, what's off, let's spend a little extra time doing that."
He further added:
So I think the clarity is what's important and trying to figure out how to get to where you're peaking. Then once you're there it's about picking a plan that maintains each facet of the game while also saving energy. It's tricky."
Jordan Spieth started the Valspar Championship with three consecutive birdies on the 14th, 15th, and 16th holes. He then sank a birdie on the sixth hole to finish at a scoring deficit of 4. The second round started with a birdie on the first hole and another birdie on the fifth.
However, Spieth also made two bogeys in the second round, only to wrap up at a scoring 70 to finish in third position alongside Cody Gribble, Tommy Fleetwood, and Davis Riley.
