“I was clearly wrong and will take full responsibility”: Tom Kim issues formal apology for damaging FedEx St. Jude’s Championship course

Tom Kim has formally apologized for damaging the TPC Southwind green during the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He admitted that he was unaware of the significant damage he had caused to the 12th green while venting his frustration during the final round of the FedEx Cup playoff's first event.

On Sunday, August 18, Tom Kim carded a 1-over 71 in the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, finishing at 1-under for the tournament. With a T50 finish, his season came to an end as he finished 51st in the standings. During the 12th hole of the final round, after two-putting for par, Kim struck the green with his putter out of frustration, which resulted in some damage.

On Monday, August 19, Kim took to Instagram to apologize for his actions during the final day in Memphis.

"Hi everyone, it's been brought to my attention about my frustration shown yesterday on the 12th green," Kim wrote. "I will never lie to my peers and fans because I have to much respect and gratitude towards them."

"I wasn't aware that I had made that big of a damage on the green cause if I did I would've never just left without repairing it, but I was clearly wrong and will take full responsibility of my actions and will be better going forward. Thank you and I apologize again and thank you for your support throughout a tough year," he added.

Kim had a good start to the final round and was 4-under for the day until the 16th hole. However, he made a bogey on the 16th followed by two back-to-back double bogeys to finish the day at 1-over.

The three-time PGA Tour winner had an underwhelming season. He missed four cuts this year and made just two top-ten finishes.
