"I definitely need one of those"- Ian Poulter sets his eyes on the Open Championship spot at World City Championship

Ian Poulter will head to Hong Kong next week where he will compete at the World City Championship in the hope of qualifying for the last Major of the year, the Open Championship.

Poulter has some good memories of Hong Kong as he triumphed at the 2010 Hong Kong Open. He is not the only LIV Golf player here, as his teammate Henrik Stenson will also feature at the Asian Tour event.

The tournament offers $1 million in prize money, but that's not all it offers. Players will be setting their eyes on the four spots available for the upcoming Open Championship

Having won the 2016 Open Championship, Stesnon doesn't need to worry about his spot but Poulter will be in dire need of it and he admits that.

“It’s a huge thing for the region to have. I definitely need one of those [spots]," Poulter was quoted in South China Morning Post. "That was a secondary thing on my list as a box ticker. It’s a golf course I know and hopefully, we can go and qualify for the Open Championship at the same time.”

The 47-year-old knows the Hong Kong Golf Club well, having won an event here 13 years ago. 2010 was one of his best years as he went on to win the World Golf Championship Accenture Match Play and also reached World No. 5.

“For me 2010 was a highlight year,” Poulter said.

Stenson, on the other hand, is a stranger to the place, and his former Ryder Cup teammate has been cleared that he won't be getting any help from his LIV teammate.

“This is one of those weeks where this isn’t a team, so I need to be a little selfish. Henrik is smart enough to work out how to get around the golf course, so I don’t need to share those tips.”

Before the Hong Kong event, the pair will be playing at the LIV Golf circuit's Tucson event. The other two members of the Majesticks GC consist of Lee Westwood and Sam Horsfield. Stenson won't have much time to get familiar with Fanling Course as the tournament starts next Thursday.
