“I feel a little guilty”: Phil Mickelson comes clean and apologizes to 1M-Followed influencer for causing insecurities

LIV Golf stars Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson recently paired up with YouTube sensation Grant Horvat for a fun 2v2 challenge. The video was released on Horvat's YouTube channel, which has 1 million subscribers, on Monday (Jan. 27).

15 minutes before the trio teed off, Mickelson came clean about a prank he had pulled on Horvat that possibly shook his confidence a little. It appeared that the ace golfer had lent his range finder to Horvat with the distance measure settings in meters.

Generally, distances are measured in yards in golf. One yard approximately equals 0.9144 meters. Horvat not realizing this little trick, believed that he had shot a lesser distance than he actually had. However, Phil Mickelson owned up saying:

"I ever told you this Grant? You know how I used to have a laser in my cart for my passengers did I ever tell you that I had it in meters the whole time I was using it?" (3:55 - 4:04)

Lefty further added:

"I felt bad actually. I don't know what got after the first hole when you left it short. You're like 'Oh it's 88'. And it was really like 100." (4:05 - 4:12)

Dustin Johnson who was preparing for his game beside the duo laughed calling it a "Phil move." As Horvat stood surprised by the revelation, Mickelson admitted he was "feeling a little guilty."

"I wanted to come clean. I wanted to start this transparent" he further added "Now that I got it off my chest. I was feeling a little guilty." (4:31- 4:40)

Grant Horvat accepted Mickelson's confession and let it go.

Phil Mickelson and Grant Horvat released a teaser on Sunday to announce their collaboration with Dustin Johnson. Horvat shared an amusing video on his X account to make the announcement.

The 16-second clip started with the YouTuber asking Mickelson:

"So Phil, how are we going to get in this guy's head?"

The LIV Golf star replied to him saying:

"Grant, I have been there. I have looked around. There is nothing there."

The camera slowly panned to a confused Dustin Johnson asking the duo:

"Who you guys talking about?"

Phil Mickelson had signed Primo as the official apparel sponsor for his LIV Golf team, HyFlyers GC for the upcoming 2025 season of the league. Grant Horvat is already associated with the brand, with both him and Mickelson sporting attires from Primo.

However while Horvat had worn clothes from the brand's collection, Mickelson had opted for his team's uniform. Even Dustin Johnson was sporting his team, 4Aces GC's uniform from Extracurricular.
