Luke Clanton has made history by becoming the first amateur golfer to enter a PGA Tour event as the tournament favorite. He is entering the ISCO Championship with the lowest odds.
Clanton has competed in three PGA Tour events so far and has made two consecutive top-10 finishes, including a T2 finish at the John Deere Classic last week. He will now compete at the ISCO Championship, which will be held at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky, from Thursday, July 11, to Sunday, July 14.
According to oddsmakers, Clanton will enter Keene Trace with +1000 odds, marking him as the first amateur ever to be favored entering the tournament.
Fans online had mixed reactions to Luke Clanton being a betting favorite at the ISCO Championship. Here's a look at some reactions:
"I just put the house on him. JOIN THE CLAN," one fan wrote.
"10/1 is ludicrous," another fan wrote. "He hasn’t been in serious contention coming down the back 9 on Sunday. Do we think an amateur would handle that well in his first attempt? Probably not."
"So now we know who not to bet on 👍," this fan commented.
"Probably a favorite, not THE favorite," this user posted
"The Tour needs to lean into these young cats and expand PGATU. Clanton is exciting as all get out (watched his entire first round at Rocket in person)… Mike T, Ludvig, Shipley… inject the young talent," one user opined.
"Turn Pro homie," one fan suggested.
When will Luke Clanton tee off at the ISCO Championship?
Luke Clanton is grouped with Hayden Springer and David Micheluzzi for the first two rounds of the ISCO Championship. The trio will tee off on Thursday, July 11, at 2:00 PM ET from the first tee at Keene Trace Golf Club.
The first round of the ISCO Championship will begin on Thursday at 6:45 AM ET. Greyson Sigg, Tyson Alexander, and Ivan Cantero Gutierrez will be the first group to tee off from the first hole, while Aaron Baddeley, Carl Yuan, and Matthis Besard will start from the 10th hole.
Since the ISCO Championship is an opposite-field event of the Genesis Scottish Open, it will not feature many star players. The purse size of the ISCO Championship is $4 million, with the winner taking home $720,000 and 300 FedEx Cup points. As the tournament is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour, the winner will also receive 500 Race to Dubai Ranking Points.
