"I was just trying to do my best"- Elvis Smylie, Cameron Smith and Victor Perez engage in blame game of slow play at the 2024 Australian Open

Cameron Smith was paired with Elvis Smylie and Viktor Perez in the second round of the 2024 Australian Open. However, the group faced a warning for slow play, and the golfers seemed to blame each other.

The Aussie golfer Smith disagreed with his group receiving a warning for slow play. Smith indirectly blamed his countryman Smylie for receiving a warning again at the Australian PGA Championship.

The LIV Golfer played with Smylie last week at the Australian PGA Championship, where they received a similar warning as well.

"I don’t get put on the clock too often. I feel like we do a pretty good job. There is a common denominator there that’s a little bit slower," Smith said (via Golf Monthly).

The LIV Golf star started his round well and carded three birdies and an eagle but lost momentum on the back after receiving a slow play warning in the second round of the 2024 Australian Open.

However, Elvis Smylie in the post-round interview of the Australian Open responded by saying it was not an individual but the entire group, which includes the French golfer Victor Perez.

"It’s a group thing, it’s not an individual," said Smylie (via Golf Monthly). "I feel like I do a very good job whenever I am in the position when I have to keep up with the pace of play."

The 22-year-old golfer said he did a good job by focusing on his game whenever they fell a little bit behind pace-wise in the second round of the 2024 Australian Open.

"I was just trying to do my best of walking to the ball and making sure I did my routine, process, and go as soon as I was there to keep the pace up. But when you are put on the clock, you definitely feel a lot more anxious," Smylie said.
