"I knew I was missing one": Grayson Murray's father receives his son's last winner's check

The parents of the late Grayson Murray were involved in various activities during the 2025 Sony Open in Hawaii. Murray won the event in 2024, which was his last professional victory.

This Saturday, January 11, Grayson Murray's father, Eric, received a curious piece of momorabilia from his son, the ceremonial check corresponding to his victory a year ago. According to the the PGA Tour X account (formerly Twitter), Murray left it in the locker room when he left in a hurry so as not to miss his plane.

Eric Murray explained that he has all of his son's career winner's checks in his possession and keeps them in his office, stating:

"I've told the story to a couple of us here, Grayson used to bring me his check, his artifiticial check, and I've got them upstairs in my office, and I knew I was missing one, this one, but I didn't know if... I never asked him for it, so that was really special. I've got a special place for it. Every little thing that brings Grayson back to me is emotional but is rewarding." [0:04 - 0:34]

Grayson Murray died in May 2024 after committing suicide a day after withdrawing from the Charles Schwab Challenge. He had played 13 tournaments that season, with one win and one top-10 finish.

Grayson Murray began his professional career in 2015, after graduating from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. His career has been marked by several ups and downs, but also numerous successes.
