Scottie Scheffler opened up about the controversial behavior of International team players Tom Kim and Sungjae Im during the first-day match of the Presidents Cup. Tensions were high among the players on Thursday, September 26, as they teed off at the biennial tournament.

On Day 1, Scheffler teamed up with Russell Henley to face Tom Kim and Sungjae Im in a fourball match. During their match on the eighth hole, the International team players moved on to the ninth hole without waiting for Scheffler to complete his play, which sparked controversy. Later, in a press conference, Scheffler was asked about the incident.

The World No. 1 responded by saying he wasn't aware that Kim and Im had walked away but humorously added a playful jab at the players. He said (via ASAP Sports):

"To be fair to them walking off, I did like scream at them on the hole (laughter). I'm not going to say it was their fault, you know what I mean?" Scottie Scheffler said.

Notably, on the seventh hole, Tom Kim made a birdie putt and celebrated loudly with a fist pump while standing close to Scheffler, allegedly teasing him after his good shot. However, when Scheffler later made a birdie on the same hole, he responded by shouting, "What was that?"

During the post-tournament press conference, Scottie Scheffler reflected on his back-and-forth with Kim on the seventh hole and shared his thoughts on the playful exchanges. He said (via ASAP Sports):

"That was a bit of fun. It's the same thing I would have done at home if he had made a putt and we were playing Wolf and he celebrated like that. So it's all in good fun. We enjoy competing against each other. That's what it's like out here. It's fun to compete and fun to represent our country, and at the end of the match you take your hat off and shake hands. We're friends after, we're not friends during, I guess," Scheffler said.

Scheffler and Henley ultimately defeated Kim and Sungjae Im by 1 up in the match.
