It is but natural to suddenly become wide-eyed and nervous when one meets their idol. Northern Irish golfer, Rory McIlroy was recently witness to one such moment at the WM Phoenix Open.

Journalist Claire Rogers met McIlroy when the golfer arrived at the 16th hole to take his tee shot. She was talking to her co-worker when she noticed McIlroy walking towards her.

She felt beyond overwhelmed and nervous as the world no. 1 extended his hand to her. They both greeted each other and McIlroy said something that could make anyone's day.

McIlroy said:

"I like your work. It’s very funny."

This was Rogers' first interaction with the golfer and she was pleasantly suprised by him. She even turned to look at her co-worker who had a big smile on his face. McIlroy even asked Claire Rogers about one of her tweets. To his compliment, she just smiled and said:

"Thank you! I like your golf!"

Then Rory McIlroy chatted with them while the rest of his group continued ahead and he was on his way. Certainly, a moment one cannot miss or forget.

Rory McIlroy is no less than a golf wizard. And he proved it yet again at the WM Phoenix Open.

After a lackluster opening round, the world no. 1 somehow managed to pull off an almost impossible shot that would certainly be an addition to his long list of mesmerizing shots.

McIlroy arrived at the 11th hole, one over par due to back-to-back bogey shots on either side of the turn at TPC Scottsdale. His 337-yard tee drive went sailing over the path running down the right side of the fairway. Things just got worse for the golfer at every turn.

The ball landed in the dirt near a metal fence. There didn't seem to be much space to swing. So, most golfers would have opted to just get the ball back on the fairway. But Rory McIlroy is world no. 1 for a reason.

With his pitching wedge, he hit his shot over a corridor of spectators and trees and the ball landed on the green just 40 feet away from the hole. The shot could be called miraculous, but it's just Rory McIlroy and his phenomenal skills.

The shot obviously left many jaws hanging in the audience as they came to terms with what had just happened. The PGA Tour even posted a shot on social media saying:

"Are you kidding"

Sky Sports golf reporter Jamie Weir also expressed his views on social media saying:

"Rory McIlroy has just played a shot that I would have been fairly certain was impossible."

McIlroy eventually walked away with a par after tapping in for a four. He was more than happy with the result considering the precarious position he had found himself in.

He told reporters:

"It looked like I didn’t have a backswing, but I didn’t realize the angle, like how far right the green actually was. I got lucky with the tee shot that I had a swing, but I hit a great shot and was delighted to walk away with a par."

Well, certainly, always trust McIlroy to pull off something unexpected.
