If anybody had a great week at the PGA Championship other than Brooks Koepka, it was Michael Block. Block finished at T15 with 1-over with 71 on the fourth day at Oak Hill.
The club pro got to play alongside the likes of Justin Rose and Rory McIlory. On Sunday, he bagged $288,333, his highest-ever earning in the golf events. He was also awarded the Low Club Professional trophy. The cherry on the cake was an ace on the par-3 15th hole.
Block admitted that it was a dream come true for him and he was enjoying every moment. He said in an interview on CBS:
"I'm living a dream. I'm making sure that I enjoy this moment. I've learned that after my 46 years of life, it's not going to get better than this. There's no way."
Block isn't new on the golf course but he spent most of the time as an unknown until the PGA Championship. He worked as a club professional in Southern California.
Although the 46-year-old golfer is yet to win on PGA Tour, he has triumphed at five professional events.
As per Michael Block, he hasn't cried a lot in his life but the interview with CBS was the moment his emotions took control of him.
He said:
"I didn't cry when I had my kids. I cried, for some reason. If you love golf, you know. I cry about golf, to be honest.
"I have cried only a couple times in my life. When I won the National Championship in 2014 in Myrtle Beach. At The Dunes Club I cried. And after that, my wife hasn't seen me cry until this week."
Block's love for the game is immense. In his own admission, he only cried for golf.
"It's everything to me," he said. "Obviously, I love my family and everything else and my job and everything, but golf is my life. I live it, breathe it."
Michael Block gets Charles Schwab Challenge exemption
Michael Block's dream continues on the PGA Tour. The 46-year-old made thousands of new fans with his performance at PGA Championship at Oak Hill.
In addition to that, he has received the sponsor exemption for the Charles Schwab Challenge, which is going to tee off on Thursday, May 25, at the historic Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
Michael received a phone call from Colonial when he was giving the interview on CBS. The dream run doesn't just stop here as Block has also received a sponsor exemption for The RBC Canadian Open, which will be played June 8-11 in Toronto.
Michael Block is yet to win on PGA Tour. The T15 at Oak Hill was his best performance in the majors. Notably, he didn't even make a cut at the majors prior to last week.
The St. Louis native is also the head professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, California. Last year he won the 2022 PGA of America PGA Professional Player of the Year.
