The 2024 Presidents Cup may have wrapped up, but it seems like the drama surrounding it is still lingering on. US golfer Wyndham Clark recently clarified his salty response to Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim at the Presidents Cup.
The International pair went against Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele in the foursome event on the third day. After hitting a spectacular bunker on the 16th, Si Woo Kim did Stephen Curry's infamous 'night, night' celebration.
However, two holes later, the duo eventually lost to their US counterparts. Wyndham Clark and Tony Finau had been watching the game from the sidelines, and as their teammates won, the former took the chance to mock the Kims by doing a 'night, night' celebration. Later that day, Tom Kim had told the media that some unnamed US team members had allegedly cursed at them and that there was unsportsmanlike behavior.
Clark had appeared on the No Laying Up podcast, where he gave the "full story" about the 'night, night' response to the International duo.
"I think Tony maybe was in the back just doing it. I might have gone up just because I was so pissed about losing to them earlier. I might have gone up a little closer to them and gave them the 'night, night' and obviously got in trouble for it. But, hey, if they are going to dish it out to us, I feel like they got to be able to handle it coming right back at them,"
Clark further added that he didn't regret doing it and felt that it was "good" for the game. He hoped that no one hated him for it.
"Some of it seemed a little fabricated," - Wyndham Clark on Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim's "antics" during the Presidents Cup
US golfers Wyndham Clark and Keegan Bradley clashed against Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim from the International team for the fourball fixture on the third day. The Kims triumphed over the US pair, "fair and square". Clark talked about the loss on Golf Digest's The Loop podcast (via The Mirror):
"We witnessed them making tons of putts on us and playing unbelievable and then obviously witnessed all of the celebrations that they were doing,"
However, the 30-year-old found their celebrations "a little fabricated" and not genuine.
"And then just some of the other antics that maybe people weren’t seeing on TV, that obviously just kind of gets you to where you’re a little frustrated because some of it was extreme, in my opinion. Some of it seemed a little fabricated and so it almost didn’t seem authentic, especially for someone that’s usually pretty quiet, and so it almost seemed like they were trying to do something,"
One thing that Wyndham Clark cannot deny is the clear win that Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim registered against him and Keegan Bradley.
"So we could feel that. And so (Keegan) and I lost, they beat us fair and square. They played unbelievable,"
According to him, the anger from losing to the International duo might have had a hand in him taking a jab at the Kims later that day.
