Former PGA Tour star Johnson Wagner recently spoke about an issue surrounding player cuts on signature events of the tour. As per Lanto Griffin, the Players Advisory Council has agreed to reduce the field size from 156 to 120 at events on the PGA Tour.
According to Wagner, even 120 is too much. During an appearance on The Smylie Show, Wagner said that the number of players on the field should be in the 90s. He added that eventually the tour must cut the number to 50 in ties at signature events. The 44-year-old said:
"I think 120 is too much ... you could say 100 - it's a nice clean number. But I think ... just take the model of the Masters for Signature Events ... have 90-something guys, cut it to 45. And because it's really doing damage to the Monday pro-am, it's doing damage to the Wednesday pro-am, it's doing damage to the tournament being able to have hospitality all day for four straight days and make money, to ultimately give back to local charities - so I think the harm that they're causing is unseen this year."

Further, Wagner said that he played the Monday pro-am at the Wells Fargo Championship. However, he added that he shot 78, and not many would like to pay to see him play that kind of golf.
