Scottie Scheffler defeated Nick Taylor in the final round to win the 2023 WM Phoenix Open championship on Sunday, February 12. The competition came to an end when the Masters champion defeated a roster of A-list competitors.
The WM Phoenix Open is one of the biggest tournaments of the year. Scheffler won the competition the previous year, and he continued the trend this year. In addition, he reclaims the top spot in the world.
The PGA Tour announced the news on social media with the following caption:
"Back-to-back at WM Phoenix Open. Scottie Scheffler successfully defends his title and becomes the new World No. 1."
Fans sent the congratulatory text for Scheffler in the comments section of the post. They even compared him to the Northern Irish golfer, Rory McIlroy. They wrote:
"I thought Rory was the best player on the planet?"
"Be nice to see him win an event without calling for a rules official numerous times to help him gain an advantage. Bends the rules like no other."
"He should thank LIV Golf for the 3.6 million dollar payout. Last year was 1.4 million. Say thank you Phil and Greg."
"Congratulations to the 2-time world’s No. 1, Scottie Scheffler. I wonder if we’re gonna have a repeat of when he had those 4 wins in 6 starts last year. We’ll have to see what happens in Bay Hill in March but we’ve got Riviera CC to play first next week."
"Congratulations on both. Much better with you at the top instead of Rory the whiner!!"
"Incredible performance on the back nine by him today."
"Great game Scottie. Congratulations on the back-to-back victories, and becoming #1 in the World of Golf. A Champion. A great Champion."
