Justin Thomas has a good sense of humor and he often comes out as a fun person. This was apparent when Thomas joked about his name following Golf on CBS' tweet showcasing interesting statistics. In all five Tour events this year, the winners have had less than four letters in their last name.
Justin Thomas was quick to react to this and tweeted:
"I’ve always gone by Justin Thom anyways…"
Many fans reacted to Thomas' tweet. Here's a look at the best of the reactions:
"T’mas when you are feeling elegant"
"Good thing Tiger Wood isn’t playing this week."
"I feel like I would have seen it spelled that way over all these years now Just."
"Hope Jordan Spie get his win soon."
"Ricky Fowl approves this tweet."
"And you are my pick to win this week. Love you bro!"
"He said in 2023 you won in 2022 correct we’ll let it go this time your at waste management LOL!"
"Mr McIlroy needs to follow the lead of Cher, Adele, Madonna etc and just go by his first name. Come on Rory!"
"Who cares about these tournaments? Keep your eye on the prize JT: Augusta"
Justin Thomas to play at WM Phoenix Open
Justin Thomas will next be appearing in the Waste Management Phoenix Open, which will kick off on Thursday, February 9 this week.
The "People's Open" field will have 136 players this time, more than the regular 132. TPC Scottsdale is one of the four designated events with a purse size of $20 million. Earlier, it was $9 million. The winner's share has doubled to $3,60,000 from last year's $1,476,000.
Given the Phoenix Open is an elevated event, it will feature all the top golf stars. Eight of the top 10 players will be participating in the event. Only Will Zalatoris and Adam Scott will be absent from the tournament, using their right to skip one of the 17 designated events.
Justin Thomas will be eyeing his first WM Phoenix Open title as he has never won an event. Last year, he finished in the tie 8th. His best record at TPC Scottsdale is 3rd and T3 in the 2019 and 2020 editions, respectively.
Scottie Scheffler is the defending champion and will be looking at the No. 1 position by winning the title again. World No. 1 Rory McIlroy will play his first PGA Tour event of the year after winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic last week. The OWGR race has become interesting, as Jon Rahm has also already won two events this year.
This year's event will miss some prominent faces who have defected to the Saudi-backed circuit, LIV Golf. World No. 4 Cameron Smith is the highest-ranked professional to not be present at TPC Scottsdale.
The likes of Bryson DeChambeau, two-time winner Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Sergio Garcia, and Dustin Johnson will also be absent from the WM Phoenix Open due to their association with LIV. The PGA Tour has suspended LIV players from their events.
