Nelly Korda's golf swing has been in the spotlight for most of the season owing to the World No. 1 winning seven tournaments in 2024, five of them being in a row (one major). However, admiration for her swing is not a new trend, as in 2022, Lee Trevino praised the 26-year-old, claiming he had never been "more impressed" by a player's swing.
Many influential voices in the golf world have praised Nelly Korda's golf swing for years, and Lee Trevino joined in on the appreciation during the 2022 PNC Championship.
As reported by Golf Digest reporter Luke Kerr Dineen (on his X account), Trevino said,
"I’ve played with a lot of guys in my time. Let me tell you, I’ve never been so impressed by anyone as this lady right here. I’m telling you, these boys better be happy you’re on the LPGA."
Lee Trevino is recognized as one of the greatest ball-strikers in the history of golf. His skills are even more remarkable when you consider that he practically trained himself to develop the golf swing that brought him so much success, including six major titles.
Recently, renowned golf coach Hank Haney, who has worked with Tiger Woods and other major champions, used his X (formerly Twitter) account to call Nelly Korda's swing the best in the world.
Nelly Korda has also praised Lee Trevino's swing
The admiration between Nelly Korda and Lee Trevino is mutual. During the most recent edition of the PNC Championship (2024), Korda pointed out the 6-time major champion's swing as one of the most interesting to her.
When asked which golfer's swing she admired the most, Korda said (via ASAP Sports):
"Well, I mean, for Lee Trevino's age, the way he hits it and the way he strikes the ball is incredible, and also I think in two weeks he's getting a full knee replacement."
Korda also mentioned Fred Couples' golf swing as one she admired. Couples' golf swing is also considered one of the best in history, both for its aesthetics and its effectiveness.
Korda started her professional career in 2016. She has 20 wins in six seasons, 15 on the LPGA Tour and three on the Ladies European Tour. She has won two major championships (the 2021 Women's PGA Championship and the 2024 Chevron Championship) and the Olympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020.
The recently concluded 2024 was by far the best of her career to date. She won seven tournaments, five in a row (one major). This earned her the LPGA Tour's Player of the Year award.
During the recently concluded season, Korda also finished second at the AIG Women's Open, the fifth major of the year. That finish, combined with her win at the Chevron Championship, earned her the Rolex Annika Major Award, given to the LPGA Tour player with the best record in major championships.
