Max Homa has defended himself amid the criticism of slow play during the first round of the BMW Championship. He said he was waiting for a rules official for fifteen minutes.

Max Homa's poor run in the playoffs continued into the second week as he carded a 2-over 74 in the first round of the BMW Championship on Thursday, August 22. He made four bogeys in the opening round and picked just two birdies. Additionally, he also came under scrutiny for his slow play.

Following the first round, an X user named Matt Gannon shared a clip of Si Woo Kim using his phone as he awaited Max Homa to play his shot.

Homa responded to Gannon's post and gave his reasoning for the slow play.

"I was waiting on a rules official for 15 mins have a great day Matt keep up the awesome videos!" he wrote.

Earlier, Homa entered the BMW Championship after finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week, where he shot 11-over in four rounds.

Homa slipped to 43rd in the FedEx standings, and his chances of competing in the Tour Championship are dwindling with each round. He will need a strong comeback over the next three days to make it into the top 30 of the standings.

When will Max Homa tee off at the BMW Championship, Round 2?

Max Homa is paired with Si Woo Kim for the second round of the BMW Championship. The duo will tee off on Friday, August 23, at 10:25 a.m. ET.

Following the first round, Homa is tied for 38th at 2-over and is eight strokes behind the leader, Keegan Bradley. Bradley fired a 6-under 66 at Castle Pines to take the early lead. Hideki Matsuyama carried his form from last week as he shot 67 to finish the first day in second place. Sungjae Im, Alex Noren, Adam Scott, and Corey Conners were tied for third at 4-under.

The second round of the BMW Championship will begin at 9:25 a.m. ET, with Alex Noren and Eric Cole teeing off from the first hole. For the uninitiated, only the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings following the BMW Championship will qualify for the season final at East Lake next week.
