Scottie Scheffler recently clarified that he doesn't play golf for money. The World No. 1 said so in the pre-tournament press conference at the 2024 Hero World Challenge. The tournament will begin on Thursday, December 5, and go on till Sunday, December 8 at the Albany Golf Course in Nassau, Bahamas.

Scheffler won the 2023 Hero World Challenge by three strokes over Sepp Straka and would look to win this year too. He said that his passion for golf outweighs any financial incentives as money is just a bonus. He said (via Golf Digest):

"As far as I'm concerned, I don't play golf for money. I've been playing golf my whole life for free. And the money's just a bonus. And so if somebody wants to pay us to come out here and play golf, then that's great. I'm not gonna say no to it. I'm gonna do the best I can in my community to steward that money well."

Scottie Scheffler has had a terrific 2024 season and earned $62.2 million this year, including the PGA Tour earnings. He further said:

"And I wanna win just as bad for zero dollars as I do for whatever millions of dollars it is. The money's not my motivation. And so I don't, it's not something I think about. It's just a bonus that happens when you're out here playing tournaments. It's a very nice thing to have."

Scheffler's official earnings on the PGA Tour were $29.2 million. Further, he won $25 million for bagging the FedEx Cup and $8 million more for staying on the top of the FedExCup standings in the Comcast Business Tour Top 10.

Scottie Scheffler jokes about money talks with Tiger Woods

Ahead of the 2024 Hero World Challenge, Scottie Scheffler was seen with Tiger Woods in the Pro-Am competition. In the pre-tournament press conference, Scheffler was asked what he generally talks to Woods.

Scheffler humorously said (via Golf Digest):

"I think most of the time we just talked about money and, you know, how the purses need to be bigger, [laughter in the room] and, you know, today we really grinded on the Ryder Cup and how it's just such B.S. that we've never gotten paid."
"Tiger, Tiger is really frustrated, he feels like,, you know, he hasn't made enough money in his career. You know, I feel the same way, I feel like last year I didn't get paid enough for what I did. Just, mostly that, just a bunch of griping [laughs]."

As per Forbes, Tiger Woods has a net worth of $1.3 billion while Scottie Scheffler has a net worth of $61m. Scheffler will tee off at 12:14 p.m. ET with Sahith Theegala on Thursday, December 5 at the Albany Golf Course.
