Alex Noren has just renewed his dual status as a member of the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour. Despite this and other accomplishments throughout his career, the Swede is not entirely satisfied with what he has achieved.
He said as much in the latest edition of the DP World Tour's Life on Tour podcast, in which he was a guest. Noren stated that he loves his life, but he will never be satisfied with his career.
That was part of what Alex Noren said:
"I will never be happy with my career. I think, like it's sad to say, but like, what does it matter? like you know, I would never put a trophy somebody can see, like 'oh you did that' and like, I'm, like 'yeah' but you're a great banker or a nurse, you wouldn't put up all your accomplishments." He added:
"I just want to be good at hitting a ball and like be better than all the guys I play with... if I was Tiger, or Federer, or Nadal, Messi, I would be amazingly pleased, but I have a long way to go to that. But I love my life, like, I love my life so... but I will never be happy with my career. I'm sad to say, but never."
Alex Noren has had a 19-year career in professional golf. Since 2007, he has played on the European Tour (now the DP World Tour), where he has won 10 events, including the 2016 Scottish Open, the 2016 British Masters, the 2017 BMW PGA Championship and the 2018 Open de France.
Since 2018, he has also played on the PGA Tour, where he has no victories but three second places and 22 other top 10s in 183 starts. He has played in 39 editions of the Majors, with two top 10s as his best results.
Alex Noren on playing with Rory McIlroy: "That’s quite depressing"
Alex Noren described what it's like to play in the same group as Rory McIlroy in a tournament on the Life on Tour podcast. The Swede said it's "the best thing in the world" but that it's also "quite depressing".
Noren said:
"I love playing with Rory [McIlroy], if you go deep inside my body, that’s the best thing in the world. But also, I imagine myself against every shot he hits, every shot I hit... I admire any person that’s incredible in their field, so that’s quite depressing."
McIlroy and Noren have only finished one-two in one tournament. That was at the 2015 Omega Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, where the Northern Irishman defeated the Swede by three shots.
Noren played just six DP World Tour events in 2024, four of which were co-sanctioned with the PGA Tour (three Majors and the Genesis Scottish Open). Still, it was enough for him to finish 92nd in the Race to Dubai and retain his tour card.
On the PGA Tour, he played in 20 events and made 17 cuts. He finished in the top 10 four times, including a third place at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, which was his best finish of the year.
His performance allowed him to finish 37th in the FerdEx Cup standings. This not only guaranteed him a PGA Tour card for 2025, but also earned him a spot in the field for all of the season's Signature Events.
