Adam Sandler has begun filming Happy Gilmore 2. He was recently spotted taking golf swings on the set of the iconic movie sequel. The original part i.e. Happy Gilmore was released in 1996 and directed by Dennis Dugan.
Happy Gilmore earned over $41 million and became one of the most-grossing movies of that time. Since then, it has become a popular symbol of pop culture. The film followed a classic underdog story where a hockey player tried his hands at golf. The movie became known for Sandler's signature brand of humor.
Sandler was recently spotted in an orange hoodie filming for the movie. TMZ originally posted pictures of him on the golf course during the shoot, which were later shared on the NUCLRGOLF account on X. It captioned the post:
"JUST IN: Adam Sandler was spotted on set taking swings as filming for Happy Gilmore 2 continues"
In the pictures, Sandler was dressed in a bright orange hoodie over a dark-colored T-shirt with dark blue or navy-colored pants, likely joggers with sports shoes. He sported a full beard and had a casual, laid-back appearance while taking golf swings. He also had his stand-in by his side in one of the pictures.
Netflix announced the sequel of the movie at the beginning of September 2024. It said that the movie is officially in production. Further, Adam Sandler also shared an image of a hockey jersey hanging on a clothing rack on his Instagram. He captioned the post:
"It ain’t over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun."
The Boston Bruins jersey was tagged with a label that read 'Happy Gilmore' suggesting that it may be part of the wardrobe for the sequel.
The sequel also features Bad Bunny, along with Julie Bowen reprising Virginia Venit, and Christopher McDonald returning as Shooter McGavin.
Adam Sandler said that he would 'love' to see John Daly and Tiger Woods in the sequel
Apart from the aforementioned names, several other golf icons may also be seen in the film.
In a September interview with ESPN SportsCenter, Adam Sandler said that his long-time collaborator went and met John Daly during the 2024 PGA Championship, via Whiskey Riff:
"(Tim) Herlihy, he went down to the tournament this weekend and hung out with some of the guys. He hung out with Daly a little bit and Daly was telling some great stories. We’re ready, baby. We’re excited."
When asked if there are chances if Tiger Woods can also be seen in the movie, he said:
"I would love it. We'll see. I'm gonna write all my dreams, and then you never know what’s gonna happen. But we’re gonna [try]."
In the interview, he said that he was exploring ideas for the story, likely centered on Happy competing on the PGA Tour in the later stages of his career against younger golfers.
"We have a million things like I told you, but I’ve just got to kind of make it flow a little more. But I think it might have to do with something to do with me being a little older now and still trying to compete with the youngsters," he added.
The official release date of the sequel of Happy Gilmore hasn't been announced yet.
