Gary Player, one of golf's most renowned figures, has had an illustrious career with many unforgettable moments. However, there is one encounter that stands out to him outside of the golf course.

The nine-time major championship winner met the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley back in 1961. Player had gone to visit the late icon on the set of Blue Hawaii when he was 26-years-old.

Player took to his X (formerly known as Twitter) platform to reflect on the moment. He captioned the post (via X @garyplayer):

"Elvis and I were born in the same year and I got the chance to meet The King on the set of his movie “Hawaii.” He was such a gentleman and I will always remember that when I walked on to the set he yelled, “CUT!” and went and put on a jacket before coming to greet me. We talked about the golf swing and I let him know how important it was to use your hips, which he enjoyed! GP."

Since the encounter, Player has talked about meeting Presley several times at PGA Tour events.

Gary Player shared the story of the first time he met Elvis Presley

Gary Player took to his official YouTube platform to post a video talking about his meeting with Elvis Presley. In a video titled When Gary Player Met Elvis: The True Story, the golfing legend said the story began when he won the 1961 Augusta Masters.

Following the victory, he went on a talk show and was asked about what he liked to do off the golf course. Player replied that he liked to study the genetics of his horse business. The talk show host had a guitar with her. The PGA Tour legend took the instrument and delivered an impersonation of the King of Rock and Roll.

A few days later, he received mail from Presley's manager Hal Wallace which said (via YouTube 1:03 - 1:05):

"The king wants to meet you."

The South African golfer flew down to Los Angeles and walked onto the set of Blue Hawaii where he saw the legend acting. As Presley caught a glimpse of the golfer, he immediately yelled cut and put on his jacket to go and meet the 24-time PGA Tour winner.

Elvis demonstrated his golf grip to the 1961 Masters champion. Here's what Player had to say about the technique (via YouTube 1:25 - 1:30):

"Well he had a grip. It looked like a cow giving birth to a roll of barbed wire. Either that or he's brought up on a Harley Davidson motorcycle."

Once Player corrected his grip, he advised Presley to use his hips more to create an efficient golf swing. The four-time European Tour winner's recollection of the day left fans in awe with his story telling abilities.
