Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TGL league is scheduled to begin in January 2025 at the Palm Beach State College campus in Florida. The TGL has built a new SoFI Center and is gearing up to host the new golf league, as the previous structure's roof had collapsed earlier this year.
So, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TGL league has built a new $50,000,000 permanent structure instead of an inflatable dome structure. NUCLR Golf, a prominent golf account on X (formerly Twitter), shared this update.
"The SoFi Center is nearly enclosed in Palm Beach Gardens ahead of the TGL Golf League’s debut in January. The league decided to build a more permanent, $50M structure after the original inflatable dome structure collapsed earlier in the year."
This new golf league, presented by SoFi, combines advanced technology and golf with top PGA Tour players. The SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, is roughly spread across a 250,000-square-foot arena and has a capacity of approximately 1600 spectators.
It will be a two-hour weekly event during prime time starting in January 2025. Six teams from six different cities will go head-to-head in a season-long tournament at SoFi Center. There will be two sessions each week of nine and six holes.
The first session will have a nine-hole match with a three vs. three team alternate-shot format. The second session will have a head-to-head six-hole match, with each player playing two holes during the session (one player from each team will not compete each week).
The sessions will last around two hours. ESPN is the official broadcasting partner for the league in the US, and the golfers will be mic'd up, enhancing the viewing experience.
NBA star Stephen Curry and tennis legend Serena Williams have invested in this league. The field has prominent golfers taking part, with Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Collin Morikawa, among others.
Interestingly, world no.1 Scottie Scheffler hasn't joined the league and will not be part of the inaugural season of the TGL.
