All those who were concerned about Nelly Korda's status at the Evian Championship, can breathe a sigh of relief. After being bitten by a dog and withdrawing from a prior engagement, the World No. 1 golfer's status for the upcoming Major championship was up in the air.
It all depended on her recovery, which has evidently gone well, as she was spotted at the Evian Championship for previews.
While a Major tournament hardly needs any more marketing, it is good for women's golf that Korda is back and active. She's the most prominent player they have and if she was inactive due to the bite, it would likely impact the Evian Championship negatively.
Korda began the season with a hot streak that was almost unparalleled: five consecutive wins including a Major. She won six of eight starts before things began to unravel.
She missed the cut at the Women's US Open and the Women's PGA Championship, shooting a combined 16 over in the four total rounds she played. Even standard tournaments saw less success from Korda than fans had grown accustomed to earlier in the year.
She is still having one of the most successful seasons ever for an LPGA Tour player, but Korda has certainly fallen on hard times of late. With a bit of a break due to the dog bite, perhaps she has reset enough to come out with a strong performance this weekend.
Fortunately, she seems fully healthy and recovered from the bite, so it shouldn't impact how she performs at the Evian Championship.
What are the odds Nelly Korda returns to form?
Even before Nelly Korda was officially confirmed for the field, she was the betting favorite at the Evian Championship. She has been among the favorites for pretty much all events she's started since her hot streak began. Even the recent lull didn't change that for the Evian Championship.
She's 10/1 to take home her second Major trophy this year, but she's not far and away the favorite. Korda has a few competitors with strong odds as well, and it should shape up to be a quality contest.
Per Today's Golfer, these are the women with the best odds of winning the Evian Championship this weekend:
- Nelly Korda 10/1
- Atthaya Thitikul 14/1
- Lilia Vu 16/1
- Miyuu Yamashita 22/1
- Ayaka Furue 22/1
- Brooke Henderson 25/1
- Minjee Lee 35/1
- Hannah Green 40/1
- Rose Zhang 40/1
- Celine Boutier 40/1
Any one of these golfers, and other dark-horse candidates, could end up victorious on Sunday evening. Korda will have to outdo them and exorcise the demons that have followed her around for the last few tournaments in the process.
