Is Augusta National streaming a celebrity video game challenge ahead of 2023 Masters?

Augusta National will host "Road to Masters" video game live stream on April 2

Augusta National has announced that it will be hosting the "Road to Masters Invitational" live-stream video game tournament on Sunday, April 2, at the Press Building.

The game is created by EA Sports, which will have celebrities from different fields, such as sports, entertainment, and gaming worlds, competing against each other. There has been no announcement of the participating celebrities yet.

The announcement was made via The Masters' official Twitter account:

"A Masters Sunday unlike any other. #RoadToTheMasters; 🔴 Live from Augusta National Golf Club;🕕 6:00 PM EDT on Sunday, April 2"

The celebrity video game competition will start at 6 pm EDT, after the Drive, Chip, and Putt and ahead of the first Monday practice round. The earnings from the event will be donated to the Masters Tournament Foundation.

The EA Sports PGA Tour: Road to the Masters game will be available for fans on April 7.


Format

There will be four teams with two players each playing alternative shots for nine holes. The top two teams will then progress to Amen Corner for a three-hole, alternate-shot final round.


Live stream details

Fans can enjoy a live stream of the event on Masters.com, on Masters and ESPN PGA Tour's official Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook pages, as well as on the ESPN+ and the ESPN app.

Although streaming will happen globally, the event is not open to everyone. Rather, only the invited ones will be able to enjoy the event. Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta and the First Tee of Augusta will be in the expected audience.

Augusta National will host several distinguished guests, including winners of the 2023 Drive, Chip, and Putt National Finals, 2022 Asia-Pacific Amateur champion Harrison Crowe, 2023 Latin America Amateur champion Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira, and participants from the 2023 Augusta National Women's Amateur tournament.


Commentary team details

The commentary team for the PGA Tour: Road to Masters event has been announced. Rich Lerner of Golf Channel and Amanda Renner of CBS Sports will host the event, while ESPN's Michael Collins and Marty Smith will do the live analysis.
