Bryson DeChambeau won't be participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics for Team USA. The men's golf competition in the XXXIII Summer Games will be held from August 1 to 4 at Le Golf National in Guyancourt.
As per the qualifying criteria, the top 15 golfers in the Official World Golf Rankings qualify for the Olympics. However, only four golfers can qualify from a country. With nine American golfers in the top 15, only the top 4 have qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Scottie Scheffler (ranked 1st), Xander Schauffele (ranked 2nd), Wyndham Clark (ranked 5th), and Collin Morikawa (ranked 6th) will be competing at Le Golf. Bryson DeChambeau is ranked 9th in the OWGR.
Bryson DeChambeau joined LIV Golf in 2022 and LIV Golfers don't receive OWGR points for the tournaments they play. His ranking fell to 210th before he teed up at the 2024 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club. The win at the 2024 US Open and a runner-up finish at the 2024 PGA Championship helped him jump over 200 spots but that wasn't enough.
In a recent press conference with media, including Sportskeeda, at LIV Golf UK, DeChambeau was asked if he foresees potential trials for selecting the US golf team for the Olympics in the future. He said:
"Yeah, potentially. I don't know the ins and outs of that."
DeChambeau couldn't play in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics because he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and expressed that he still feels sad for missing it. He further said:
"And then come this year, it's a little different. And obviously the whole situation with the PGA kind of makes things different. So I could foresee something like that happening, there being a tournament."
This is the fifth time that Golf will be played in the Olympics and the USA team hasn't missed a podium yet. Xander Schauffele won the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics while Matt Kuchar won the Bronze in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Bryson DeChambeau is excited for table tennis at 2024 Paris Olympics
In a recent press conference at LIV Golf UK with media, including Sportskeeda, Bryson DeChambeau said he was excited to watch ping-pong. He said:
"But as it stands right now, I'm excited to watch. I can't wait to watch, especially ping pong. I'm a big ping-pong fan. I love watching ping pong. So I'll be up on the table tennis. But again, I love watching it. It's one of my favorite sports to watch in my off time."
Seven LIV Golfers will tee off at LE Golf on Thursday, August 2. They are as follows:
- Abraham Ancer (Mexico)
- Adrian Meronk (Poland)
- Joaquin Niemann (Chile)
- Carlos Ortiz (Mexico)
