Scottie Scheffler is a PGA Tour professional currently ranked No. 1 in the OWGR. He has never played on the LIV golf circuit.
Since the arrival of LIV Golf in 2022, many stalwarts on the PGA Tour have switched their allegiance for various reasons. The major reason was the less stressful schedule in exchange for a higher financial return compared to the PGA Tour. The likes of Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Bubba Watson were among the first defectors.
Last year, Jon Rahm also decided to join the Saudi-backed circuit in arguably the biggest blow to the tour. However, Scottie Scheffler has been one such name who has remained loyal to the PGA Tour despite his stakes being at an all-time high.
Scheffler is the top-ranked player in the OWGR and has won the most (eight) events on the PGA Tour since the inception of the Saudi-backed circuit. However, he has never been subject to rumors of making a switch.
A few months ago, the World No. 1 golfer again criticized the defectors, stating that they shouldn't get an easy welcome on the PGA Tour.
"You had some guys that left our Tour and then sued our Tour," he told Golf Channel during the WM Phoenix Open. "That wasn’t really in great taste."
"Then you had some other guys that just left and they wanted to do something different. Everybody made their own decision, and I have no bad blood toward the guys that left. But a path towards coming back, I think it wouldn't be a very popular decision, I think, if they just came back like nothing ever happened," he added.
Scheffler made his professional debut in 2018 and earned his PGA Tour card in 2020. It didn't take him long to make an impact, as he won four titles in 2022, including the Masters Tournament, and also became World No. 1. Last season, he claimed two titles, and this season he has added four more wins, including one more at the Augusta National.
What's next for Scottie Scheffler?
Scottie Scheffler is currently competing at the Memorial Tournament, the penultimate signature event of the season. He is leading by three strokes after 36 holes. If he lifts the title on Sunday, June 9, it will be his fifth title of the year.
Scheffler will next compete at the US Open, the third Major of the season. The 124th edition of the championship will take place from Thursday, June 13 to Sunday, June 16 at Pinehurst No. 2.
Although Scottie Scheffler has yet to taste success at the US Open, he has an impressive record here. He missed the cut on his debut in 2019, but since then, he has made three consecutive top-10 finishes in his last three starts. Last year, he finished third at LACC. The 27-year-old golfer will enter the US Open field this time as the favorite to win.
