Scottie Scheffler will appear at the 2024 College GameDay by ESPN. In 2022, Scheffler made his first appearance at the event after being crowned as the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year. Two years on, he will make his second appearance at the College GameDay this Saturday.
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit announced the news on Thursday during the Pat McAfee show. The World No. 1 will be attending the college football match between No.1 Texas and No.5 Georgia. Scheffler will be the guest picker along with journalist Rece Davis and others.
College GameDay is a three-hour TV show that organizes matchups on college campuses. In the winter, the program will organize college basketball matches. The event will include fan contests, celebrity guest appearances, and other fan-centered events alongside the matchups.
ESPN’s College GameDay first aired in 1987 with host Tim Brando alongside Lee Corso and Beano Cook. The host for 2024 will be Rece Davis, and the program will feature Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Steve Coughlin, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, and more.
When PGA Tour golfer Scottie Scheffler bagged 2022 Player of the Year award at ESPN's College GameDay
Scottie Scheffler accompanied the Texas Golf team at the 2022 College GameDay, where the team was honored by ESPN for winning the NCAA Championship. Scheffler was given the Player of the Year award in a surprise, and bestowed with the Jack Nicklaus trophy on stage at the event.
Following that, fans started chanting his name and Scheffler became emotional. Speaking on the occasion, he shared how much the achievement meant to him ( via Jacksonville.com),
“That’s pretty cool…I don’t have much to say. I definitely was not expecting that. But it means a lot to me.”
In 2022, Scheffler earned more than $14 million on the PGA Tour through his achievements. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan applauded the golfer for his successes, saying via a statement,
“On behalf of the PGA Tour, congratulations to Scottie on his remarkable season and his unprecedented achievements…Undoubtedly, one of the highest compliments a player can receive is the endorsement from his peers, and the fact that Scottie’s season was both dominant and consistent spoke volumes to the membership,”
He continued, “And as gratifying as it has been to see his development on the course over the last several years, we are equally thankful that Scottie has embraced the role as an ambassador of the PGA Tour and the game of golf. With young stars like Scottie leading the way, the PGA Tour is in great hands for many years to come.”
In 2022, the current World No. 1 bagged three trophies on the PGA Tour. He won the Masters Tournament, the WM Phoenix Open, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational that year. He had a total of 11 top-ten finishes in 2022.
