Scottie Scheffler is gearing up for the 2024 Open Championship. The 152nd edition of the tournament will begin in less than 24 hours at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. The 28-year-old recently opened up about the famous 'Scheffler Shuffle.'

Scheffler is known for shuffling his feet during his swing, as they jump and slide up and back at impact. During a pre-tournament press conference, he was asked about the story behind the 'Scheffler Shuffle.' Talking about it, he said (via PGA Tour):

"In terms of my footwork, I just felt too kind of locked in and unnatural if I don't do what my feet normally do, because it may look funny to y'all, but it feels totally normal to me. I never thought twice about it."

He added that he didn't even think much about the movement of his legs until he joined the Tour where he was asked about it.

"That was kind of my calling card when I first came on tour was my footwork, and it was something I never really thought about because that's just always what I did," he added.

In a 2022 video with TaylorMade Golf, he explained that he derives power from his footwork. He said:

"What I’m trying to do to get power in my golf swing is load into my right side and then come off my right side and go into my left. So, in order to get weight from here to there — when I slide my feet, it makes sure I get all my weight kind of through the ball." (0:11-0:22)

In the video, he said he tried keeping his feet still during his swing but found out that he didn't feel good. He said that 'the feel' is important to him and he sticks to it, as he has been doing it for a long time.

Scottie Scheffler further said his coach Randy Smith, who has worked with him for more than 20 years, hasn't tried to change his footwork and believes in his unique swing.
