"It was a really nice start"- Jordan Spieth after a wild round at the 2023 Valspar Championship

Jordan Spieth had a thrilling round at the Valspar Championship on Saturday, March 18. The American golfer started the third round with an eagle on the first hole. He then went on to make a birdie on the fifth hole.

Spieth made five bogeys and then five birdies to counter that. He had a good start to the tournament and made four birdies in the opening round.

The former World No. 1 carded a round of 67 on the first day, followed by a second round of 70 and a third of 69 to finish at a scoring deficit of seven.

Speaking about his performance, Spieth said:

"It was a really nice start. I've kind of not really had my best stuff the last two days with my swing and today I managed it really well around here. I made a few too many mistakes but overall in these conditions I think I would have signed for 2-under."

It is important to note that Adam Schenk has maintained his lead since the first round. He has secured the top position with a score deficit of eight after three rounds of 66, 69, and 70.

Tommy Fleetwood has secured second position alongside Spieth. Speaking about his game, Fleetwood said:

"I think the first thing to look at is bogey-free. I made no dropped shots, I never went backwards once. I think that was just, they're always nice, no matter where you play nor when you're playing, but on a day like today when it's really tough, I felt like that was really important. Overall just happy with how patient I stayed."
