Jason Kokrak slammed the Masters' officials for ruining Sandy Lyle's farewell. The Scottish professional golfer was heading to play on the last hole of the second round when officials suspended the game due to a bad weather forecast.
Lyle made a double bogey on the 17th hole and walked to the fairway to play the last shot of his Masters career. Fans were cheering for him and the media was waiting to take his interview after the last hole. Unfortunately, the officials asked the players to return to the clubhouse due to thunderstorm threats.
Everyone was waiting for Sandy Lyle to play his last shot. A few chants were heard in the crowd asking the officials to let the veteran putt. But nothing worked, and Lyle was sent back to play the last hole of the second round on Saturday morning.
Jason Kokrak was disappointed with the officials and spoke about it in an interview with Golf.com. He said:
“I said, ‘It’s chicken s**t. It could have been a really cool moment for Sandy Lyle, his family, the patrons, Augusta National, being the ’88 champion. Him and Larry being their last Masters. I asked them for a special exemption. They said they weren’t even going to blow the horn for a few more minutes, but the trees came down on 17."
He added:
“I said this is a moment that he’s not going to get again. So I think Augusta National and the rules committee should be ashamed of themselves. And I’m really disappointed for him and his family for him not to be able to have that moment.”
