“It will soon be his time to be Ryder Cup captain”: Luke Donald makes big claim about Justin Rose after team cup win

Europe Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald has been left highly impressed with Justin Rose's leadership at the 2025 Team Cup. He believes that Rose has the potential to lead the European Ryder Cup team in the future.

At the Team Cup, Great Britain and Ireland secured a landslide victory over Continental Europe, 17-8, under Rose's captaincy. The Rose-led team was already leading with a large margin of 11-4 going into Sunday's final round. The Team Cup requires a side to earn 13 points to win the title. Great Britain and Ireland only needed two more points to win in the singles matches in the last round.

Justin Rose has been looked upon as the potential successor to Luke Donald at the 2027 Ryder Cup. The latter also acknowledged Rose's potential while commending his captaincy at the Team Cup (via the BBC):

"I think he understands that at some point it will be his time to be captain for the Ryder Cup. He picked my brain and I think his messaging to the team was spot on."

He further added:

"I kind of left him to do it himself and he will obviously be very happy with the result."

Rose sent his two arguably best players, Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrrell Hatton in the first two singles matches. The focused and no-nonsense approach rewarded the team with two wins at the very start of the last round. The captain on his part, defeated Julien Guerrier 3 and 2.

Luke Donald appreciated Rose's decision-making skills saying:

"We know how meticulous Justin has been in his career about preparing and doing the right things and getting the most out of everything. I think he took this job very seriously."

The Team Cup employed a similar format as of Ryder Cup. Donald believes that even though the tournament never got neck-to-neck, it was a good preparation for the European team.

The 2025 Ryder Cup will take place in September at Bethpage Black, New York. Europe will be coming to the US as defending champions having won the title in Rome two years back.
