Jim Furyk, a distinguished veteran of world golf, has notably represented the United States in numerous team events. Furyk has participated in 16 editions as a player, including the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup, and has also captained two more.
As such, his perspective is particularly insightful when it comes to understanding the significance of these events for the players. The 54-year-old elaborated on this during his press conference on Tuesday ahead of the 2024 Presidents Cup.
"I think what makes this event so great is that you see players that are usually stoic, that don't fist pump, that don´t show a lot of emotion, and they go bonkers, they run around a green, they fist pump, they're screaming at the top of their lungs and you can't hear them because the crowd is so loud," he said. He added:
"That's what make these events so great, and I think that's why both sides and the players enjoy it so much." [0:20 - 024]
Furyk is leading the American team at the Presidents Cup, which is being held at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada. His assistants are Stewart Cink, Justin Leonard, Kevin Kisner, and Brandt Snedeker.
Although the Presidents Cup activities began on Tuesday 24 September, the official event will run from 26-29 September, with the usual fourballs and foursomes matches on the first three days and singles matches on the final day.
