Several fans were criticial Jim Furyk's response to golf journalist Adam Schupak's opinion about the Presidents Cup. On the eve of last week's Procore Championship, Schupak met the US team members and discussed about the upcoming team event.

Schupak shared his opinion and spoke about the International team at the biennial tournament, emphasizing that they needed to win the tournament to energize it. The Presidents Cup is a biennial event, and since its inception in 1994, it has been Team USA that has dominated and holds an impressive grip on the tournament with a record of 14-1-1, having only lost one edition so far.

However, Jim Furyk was offended by Adam Schupak's remarks and slammed the journalist, stating:

"So it's not like I'm killing you right now, but f**k you. Go f**k yourself. You can quote me on that."

However, fans in the comments section were not impressed with Furyk's response and called him "rude."

"Jim as tough as a bowl of jello," a fan wrote.
"Never liked Jim, very rude to fans and seems like a smug POS. Reminds me of Bubba and Webb Simpson, Zach Johnson," another fan wrote.

Meanwhile, another fan criticized Furyk, commenting that his response was "a bit juvenile & unprofessional."

"I don’t get what’s so wrong or inappropriate about his question. Likewise, Furyk’s response seems a bit juvenile & unprofessional. It’s been a 1 sided competition. His question seems relevant. Furyk could have answered no. He also could have answered yes. I don’t get the vitriol," a fan jotted.
"What a stupid question to ask," a fan commented.

A closer look at the Furyk-Schupak conversation on the Presidents Cup

Recently, golf journalist Adam Schupak mentioned his conversation with Jim Furyk about the Presidents Cup in his article for Golf Week. The renowned journalist noted that ahead of last week's PGA Tour event, during their meeting at Silverado Resort, they discussed the Presidents Cup, sharing memories of the tournament and talking about captain picks.

Schupak highlighted the dominance of Team USA but suggested that for the tournament to remain competitive, the International team needed to win the event.

“Nothing personal,” Schupak said, “but the competition really needs an International Team victory to energize the matches.”

However, Furyk was offended by the remark and said (Golf Week):

"Really? You’re American. I do actually take offense at that. I don’t hate you but it’s a pretty shi–y thing to say.”

Furyk also shared a story from the 2017 Presidents Cup with Schupak about how a "high-ranking PGA Tour official's" remark offended him. The official, whom the 17 PGA Tour winner chose not to reveal by name, wished him luck for the tournament. However, Furyk was displeased with the way it was said. Recalling the moment, the 54-year-old said:

"Just the way he said it, it was so back-handed. I said, ‘You know, I’m not exactly sure I know what that’s supposed to mean."

The official also mentioned that the International team needed to win the tournament. This comment offended Jim Furyk back in 2017, and when Schupak made a similar remark in 2024, it again upset him.
