Jon Rahm recently said that he didn't want his DP World Tour fine hearing to be before the Ryder Cup later this year. He said he planned to compete at Bethpage and believed that settling his appeal before that wouldn't be a good idea.

Rahm will be in action this week at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic 2025, his first start of the year. He will be eyeing to perform well here to earn Ryder Cup points.

On Tuesday, January 14, during the pre-event press conference of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, Rahm said he didn't know about the future but was hopeful to be in the Ryder Cup squad.

"I don't know what's going to happen, and I'm hoping they don't try to settle the appeal before The Ryder Cup," he said. "I don't think that would be good for anybody. But my plan is to be at Bethpage.

Rahm also spoke about Sergio Garcia, who renewed his DP World Tour membership in a bid to make it to the Ryder Cup team.

"Sergio Garcia can hit it tee-to-green better than anybody on the planet," he added. "It's that simple. He's still that good and he's still very valuable."
"I understand the change in circumstances. I get it. But at the end of the day, being Spanish and a friend and a mentor, I'm obviously going to be biassed towards him. And I would love to see him in that team room but who knows what's going to happen."

The Hero Dubai Desert Classic will feature several LIV Golf stars aiming to earn Ryder Cup points. The Ryder Cup 2025 is set to take place from September 26 to 28 in Bethpage Black Course, Farmingdale, New York. LIV Golf professionals like Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and Sergio Garcia are vying for one of the 12 spots, but they have fewer opportunities compared to DP World Tour regulars.

Jon Rahm's Ryder Cup record explored

Jon Rahm has been part of three Ryder Cup editions and has a decent record. He made his tournament debut in 2018, where he earned just one point from three matches, finishing with a 1-2-0 scoreline. However, despite his disappointing performance, Team Europe was able to post a 17.5-10.5 win over the Americans.

Rahm returned to the Ryder Cup squad in 2021 and had a stellar tournament. He played five matches and earned 3.5 points with a 3–1–1 scoreline.

Jon Rahm was also part of the Ryder Cup 2023 squad that secured a 16.5-11.5 victory over Team USA at the Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome, Italy. He scored three points for the team and finished with a 2-0-2 scoreline.
