Rory McIlroy won the 2022 FedEx Cup and bagged $18 million in prize money. Now, as the race for the 2023 FedEx Cup title is back in full swing, the Irish golfer is nowhere near the top 10. The golfer sits at 21, while Jon Rahm sits at the top of the leaderboard.
Rahm became the runaway leader in the 2022-23 FedEx Cup points list standings early on in the season. The Spaniard looks comfortable on top with 1,450 points in the season-long FedEx Cup points standings. The golfer took back-to-back wins on the circuit in January that eventually put him on top of the leaderboard for the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Rahm has a 191-point lead over second-placed Max Homa. The duo were followed by Keegan Bradley and Seamus Power at positions 3 and 4. Surprisingly, World No.1 Scottie Scheffler is 5th with 849 points. However, it is worth noting that the 2022-23 season includes 44 regular-season events before the start of the three-event playoff series that ends at the Tour Championship in August.
2022-23 FedEx Cup points list standings
For the unversed, all regular-season PGA Tour events award 500 FedEx Cup points to the winner. Points are also earned by every player making the cut at the events. Meanwhile, the winners of the circuit’s "designated" events get 550 FedEx Cup points. Major champions get 600 points while the winner of any event played in the same week as a major or "designated" event gets 300 points.
Currently, there is a 1,310-point gulf between the golfer sitting first and 100 on the points table. However, this could largely change in the coming months.
