Fans on X have reacted to the heartbreaking news of Grayson Murray's death on Saturday morning. The former champion recently won his second PGA tournament at the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii.

The 30-year-old was competing at the Charles Schwab Challenge and quit the tournament during the second round, with two holes left behind. His death was announced by PGA Tour commissionerJay Monahan.

"We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words. The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones," Monahan said.

Many fans have reacted to Murray's death, with one saying that the news was "awful to hear".

Grayson Murray's parents called for Charles Schwab Challenge to continue despite his death

Grayson Murray was competing in the Charles Schwab challenge before his death and his parents asked for the tournament to continue, as stated by PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan.

Monahan said that while continuing with the tournament would be difficult, he wanted to respect the wishes of Murray's parents.

“I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play, Monahan said. “They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes.”

Grayson Murray competed in 12 tournaments in 2024, making the cut in eight of them. His best performance was winning the Sony Open in Hawaii, which was his second and last PGA Tour title. He also tied for tenth place at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Murray also competed in both Majors this season, finishing 51st at The Masters and T43 at the PGA Championship. He was ranked 58th in the world at the time of his death.
