Justin Rose, the captain of GB&I is thankful to his teammates after winning the 2025 Team Cup at Abu Dhabi Golf Club. In his latest post, the golfer considered himself lucky as his team played with pride, skill and commitment.
I couldn’t have been luckier!
Team Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I) under Rose’s leadership showed a commanding performance over three days in the Team Cup this year. They dominated Team Continental Europe as they secured the tournament win with a big margin of 16.5-7.5.
The victory of Team GB&I was already decided even before the third and final round of the Team Cup started on Sunday, January 12. GB&I was leading the Continental Europe with a clear 11 points.
With the wins in Sunday Singles by GB&I team members Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hutton, Laurie Canter, Justin Rose, and Paul Waring the formality was done. The remaining GB&I members were Matthew Jordan, Matt Wallace, Tom McKibbin, Jordan Smith, and Aaron Rai.
The Ryder Cup retention is the next goal for Justin Rose
Justin Rose believes that the players from both the teams playing in the Team Cup will certainly eye the Ryder Cup which is scheduled in September this year. A few of those, who participate in this tournament, will certainly make their case strong for being part of Team Europe to play in the Ryder Cup in New York.
The revival of the Team Cup was to boost Team Europe’s chances in 2003 and it will remain the same for this year’s Ryder Cup as well. Six players of Team Cup were featured in 2003’s Team Europe for the Ryder Cup under the captaincy of Luke Donald, who won the tournament.
Along with Justin Rose, Luke Donald is also eying a few of the Team Cup players for this year’s Ryder Cup. Aaron Rai, Laurie Canter, Tommy Fleetwood, and Tyrrell Hatton were the few names Donald would think about participating in Team Europe later this year.
Luke Donald said:
Matthieu Pavon really played some great golf. He just looked very strong from the get-go.
According to a news report, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland and Shane Lowry are certain to be part of Team Europe for September’s Ryder Cup in New York. Apart from them, Fleetwood and Hatton have increased their chances by their impressive performances for the Team Great Britain and Ireland in the Team Cup.
Fleetwood’s winning point for Team Europe in the 2023 Ryder Cup against the US can also go in his favor along with his winning point against Pavon on Sunday.
