Kevin Yu reflects traveling from Asia to play amateur events and winning on the PGA Tour

Kevin Yu has emerged victorious at the 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship. The second tournament of FedExCup Fall was held at the Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Mississippi from Thursday, 3 to 6 October.

The Taiwanese player scored 66, 66, 66 and 67 in the four rounds of the tournament. After 72 holes, he was tied for the first position with Beau Hossler. Yu won the tournament in playoffs with a birdie on the first extra hole.

In the post-tournament press conference, Kevin Yu was asked about the reality of winning on the PGA TOUR compared to his dream, considering his journey from playing amateur events in Asia to reaching the PGA TOUR in his second year. He said, via ASAP Sports:

"It's literally a dream come true. I've been dreaming of this moment since I was five. I think this is the dream for all the golfers, to win on PGA."

"And then I did it today and I'm really thankful for my parents right there right now. And without them, I don't think I could've done this, win this tournament. And I also want to thank my team, my coaches, my caddie, and my friends; all their support made me today," he added.

The 26-year-old was further asked about how impactful it was for him to have his parents witness him fulfill his dream. He said:

"It's really big. I think there is only like three guys from Taiwan winning on PGA TOUR. To have them right here, I think it's really almost feel like impossible things."

Yu said that his father Tommy Yu taught him how to play golf since he was five years old. He said that his parents have worked hard and sacrificed a lot for him, and he couldn't have won on the PGA Tour without their efforts.

Yu got prize money of $1,368,000 for winning the Sanderson Farms Championship from a total purse of $7,600,000 for the tournament.

Kevin Yu has had a mixed 2024 season. In 23 starts on the PGA Tour, he has had one win, five top-10 and six top-25 finishes. He made 13 cuts but also missed 10. He is currently positioned 60th in the FedExCup Fall standings.
