Golf enthusiasts have reacted humorously to Scottie Scheffler's infamous arrest incident by recreating it for a Halloween costume. Earlier this year, during the 2024 PGA Championship, the World No. 1 was detained by police at the front gate of Valhalla Golf Course.
With Halloween approaching, a golf fan dressed his kids as Scheffler and his arresting officer, reenacting the scene of the two-time major winner's arrest. Caddie Uniform shared photos of the children dressed as Scottie Scheffler and the police officer for Halloween.
One child wore an orange jumpsuit with "Scheffler" printed on the back, resembling the American golfer's uniform when his mugshot was taken. Meanwhile, the other child donned a police uniform, handcuffing the "Scheffler" character to recreate the scene.
Scheffler was arrested in May 2024, ahead of the second round of the PGA Championship. He was driving to the venue early in the morning when a tragic accident near Valhalla Golf Course led to heavy traffic.
A pedestrian was reportedly killed in the accident. Scheffler, rushing to make his tee time, was stopped by the police as he drove forward. In this, a police officer was injured. The officer was allegedly dragged by Scheffler's car, causing minor injuries and tearing his pants. The golfer was subsequently arrested at the entrance of Valhalla Golf Course.
Despite being taken to jail, Scheffler was released and later competed in the tournament. He later issued a statement explaining that the entire situation was a misunderstanding. Scheffler said:
"This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers. It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I'm hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.
"Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective," he added.
The case was ultimately closed due to insufficient evidence against the golfer.
Scottie Scheffler’s mugshot became a fashion statement at the PGA Championship
Scottie Scheffler was released from jail just a few hours after his arrest, and when he returned to the venue to compete in the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship, fans welcomed him with t-shirts printed with his mugshot.
Fans quickly printed the t-shirts and mocked the infamous arrest at the Major. Some fans even printed "Free Scottie" on their t-shirts to support the golfer.
Despite the arrest, Scottie Scheffler completed his game at the PGA Championship and finished tied for eighth place after the four rounds.
