Before jumping ship to LIV Golf, Lee Westwood made a massive name for himself on the European Tour. Westwood won 25 professional events on the tour, but his relationship took a drastic turn after he joined LIV Golf. Not only did Westwood resign from the European Tour, but he was also fined $1,000,000.

Apart from the fine, Lee Westwood is also prevented from playing on the PGA Champions Tour, as the organization stipulates that golfers can only feature in the competition after a year of not competing in LIV Golf. Recently, before the U.S. Senior Open Championship commenced, Westwood gave his take on the fine he owes the European Tour. He said (as quoted by Mirror):

"We'll have to find a way around that. At any level, it's disappointing they can't resolve it. The Champions Tour for me is important because people have watched me play and other guys out here play for the last 30, 40 years, and they build relationships with those players and they've seen us grow as players and people."

He added:

"Yes, people want to see the youngsters, the new guys on the block coming through and contending. But they also want to see the guys they've made a bond with over the last 30, 40 years."
