LIV Golf Mayakoba: Final player and team leaderboard explored

The 2023 LIV Golf League’s season opener ended on Sunday with Charles Howell III lifting the trophy. The event, held at the El Camaleón Golf Course in Mayakoba, Mexico, saw the American lead his Crushers side to victory as well.

This was Howell III’s first-ever professional victory. Playing alongside teammates Bryson DeChambeau, Anirban Lahiri, and Paul Casey, the golfer aced through the field to win the individual title. The 43-year-old beat Peter Uihlein and Branden Grace to take the $4 million prize on offer. He also bagged a share of his team’s $3 million earnings as well.

While Howell III came out to stun fans with his game, some big names fell short in their attempts. Players like Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, and Patrick Reed, among others, struggled in the Saudi-backed series’ season opener. The golfers watched on as players like Paul Casey, Carlos Ortiz, and Brendan Steele made it to the top ranks.
