LIV Golf reserve golfer John Catlin has missed out on a victory at the 2024 Black Mountain Championship. He was competing in the fifth event of the 10-tournament International Series and is looking to earn a card for the 2025 LIV Golf season.
Catlin got himself in contention to win but lost in the playoff to Michael Maguire. The LIV Golf reserve golfer scored a birdie on the first playoff hole while Maguire matched him by draining a 20-footer birdie. Maguire kept the momentum in the second playoff hole and scored a par, while Catlin missed his 15-footer par to finish second.
Unfortunately, this was Catlin's second playoff defeat, as he lost the International Series in Morroco earlier this year in the playoff. Hence, this defeat has left the American golfer disappointed as he feels he didn't do much wrong.
"I mean, it kind of feels like Morocco, like I really didn’t do that much wrong, and here I am standing on the wrong side of it, so it is what it is," Catlin was quoted as saying by livgolf.com.
"I kind of kept telling myself I was like, 'Michael’s kind of pushing me,' like I could feel that. Like, he kept holing good putts and hitting good shots in there, and I kind of used that. I was like, 'Okay, he’s gonna push me on, I gotta keep staying strong,'" the LIV Golf reserve said.
John Catlin has represented Crushers GC, Smash GC, and Legion XIII as a reserve in the 2024 LIV Golf season. He showcased some incredible skills with a best finish of T7 at LIV Golf Nashville.
