Scott Vincent had a strong start at the International Series Morocco, shooting 5-under 68 in the first round on Thursday (July 4). However, it became even more memorable as he played the round with rental clubs after his bag wasn't delivered on time by the airline.
Vincent, who plays for Iron Heads GC in LIV Golf, is currently competing at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam (Red Course) for the International Series Morocco this week. He had a steady start to the tournament, tying for fourth place after his opening round of 68. During his round, he carded five birdies, one eagle, and a double bogey.
On Thursday, Flushing It reported that Scott Vincent's club bag had not arrived on time, as the airline had lost the clubs.
"Airline lost his clubs, he was told they’d be there today so he drove to Casablanca but they weren’t," Flushing It wrote. "So he drove back, grabbed a rental set, missed his tee time, was stroked 2 shots, then shot 5 under. Incredible!"
Asian Tour broadcaster Tim Constantine Low reported that the airline had informed him he would receive the clubs on Thursday. Consequently, he decided to travel 1.5 hours to Casablanca, only to be denied entry.
Since Vincent was running late for the tournament, he hurried back and used alternate rental clubs. His groupmates Eugenio Chaccara and Jazz Janewattananond waited for him initially but eventually proceeded to hit their tee shots as the first alternate was also waiting.
The 32-year-old Zimbabwean golfer arrived just 30 seconds before the deadline. He started with a two-stroke penalty, resulting in a double bogey. However, this proved to be his only mistake of the day as he finished just two shots behind the lead.
Scott Vincent wasn't the only one with an unusual start to the week in Morocco. His brother Kieran also had to play with a mixed bag and borrowed clubs. Low reported that Kieran wore Caleb Surrat’s polos, Scott’s shorts, an International Series cap, and an Iron Heads belt. For those unfamiliar, Kieran plays for Legion XIII.
Kieran's bag was similarly mixed, containing Caleb Surrat's irons, Taichi Kho’s backup driver, Ian Snyman’s 60-degree wedge and gloves, and Jaco Ahlers’ golf balls. The 26-year-old golfer shot 1-under 72 and was tied for 42nd after the first round.
